Mantle Problems

Jungle gym architects don't like boring looking structures. At times, we wonder what kids might do with some of the features they put on them. Oh, well. That's not our job--we're here to tell you what a climber should be doing with them.

One strange item in the jungle gym catalog is a railing that goes up and down. There's a large number of elevated walkways on the jungle gyms around here, and the railings often do bizarre things. We like to exploit these oddities by "walking" across them on our hands.

Here's Mark showing off a sequence for you:

Notice that, although Mark never touches the floor with his feet, he does push against the walls.

You can make interesting problems on more normal looking structures, too. Here's Mark doing much the same thing on a particularly nasty section of the Newfield gym. (It's tough because you have to make a large number of elevation changes. Going on a flat railing is easy.) Note that for this particular problem, you have to go all the way to the bottom and all the way back up. It's longer than it looks!
