Standard Traverse

During a game of follow the leader, you will often have to move from one part of the gym to another in order to get to a particular problem. The easiest way to do this without breaking rule number one is called the "standard traverse". Here are some pictures of Mark doing this:

Although this is fast and efficient, that's not usually what you want. It can easily be made more difficult by only allowing the vertical boards for either hand or foot. In addition, see the section on the pinch traverse.

At Newfield, there is a particularly nasty version of the standard traverse. There is a fence going all the way around the playground. A traverse of even part of that section without using the top handrail can get very pumpy. Here's Fred demonstrating that one.

Note that there are other fast, efficient ways of getting from place to place during follow the leader. (Balance traverses and mantle traverses, for example.)
