Trumansburg Jungle Gym

This is our favorite jungle gym. It's big, it's varied, it's well constructed, and it's close. Occasionally, Mark has even claimed that it's the best. We've created far too many problems to outline them all here, but we'll give you some of our favorites.

Mark's Trumansburg Problem: This is definitely Mark's favorite problem. It's tough. It's nasty. Nobody else has come close to getting it.

Here's Mark doing the problem:

He's in the starting position, there. You then swing over to the opposite side using the two pinch grips that he's holding. When you get there, you can grab onto the top of the diagonal board on the inside of the roof.

More Pinching: This is an excellent problem which is also very hard. Here's Mark just before the crux of the problem:

He's using just about everything that's both legal and useful in that picture. You get the side of the vertical post that his right foot is on. You get the bottom and inside faces of the two diagonal 2x8 boards that his left foot and knee are on, and you get the two vertical pinch holds that go all the way to the top. The goal, of course, is to grab the horizontal railing at the top.

Slopers: This is a classic problem. Once again, here's Mark in the middle of it:

You start this problem on the ledge to the left under the walkway. (It's not visible in the picture, though.) Your initial handholds are the two horizontal sloping 2x8s on the side of the walkway. (Note that you don't get an open grip there, just the sloper.) Walk out to the middle of the walkway on those, pinch the vertical beams, and go up the vertical beam. You are allowed to heel hook the 2x8 (see the photo). However, if you can do it without the heel hook, it would be a much more elegant problem (and a lot more difficult).
